SWR-300 - Introduction to Social Work

Semester Credits: 3 Weeks: 8

Students will explore the history and current practice of social work through a critical anti-racist, equity-focused lens. This course integrates the profession’s knowledge, values, and skills in the study of systems-based generalist social work practice aimed at promoting social and economic justice, advancing human rights, alleviating critical social problems, and promoting well-being. Students will reflect upon and compare the congruence of their values and perspectives with those of the social work profession to evaluate their interests in and potential for a career in social work. In-class learning is supplemented with a ten-hour social service-oriented volunteer experience.
