SWR-391 - Social Work in Child Welfare

Semester Credits: 3 Weeks: 8

This course examines the history of governmental intervention in families to protect at-risk children. It focuses on child maltreatment, the development and evolution of child protective services in the United States, and emerging practices for treating and preventing child neglect and abuse. The role of social workers, alone and as members of interdisciplinary teams, in developing and providing services for dependent, abused, and neglected children will be explored.
