The focus of this course is policy analysis, practice, and advocacy. It builds on student understanding that policy practice is central to social work practice. This class will introduce frameworks for policy analysis using critical and intersectional theories. Students will also be introduced to policy document writing, including policy briefs, memos, factsheets, op-eds, and public comments. This course seeks to deepen students’ understanding of the role of advocacy in the pursuit of social and economic justice. The reciprocal relationship between race, gender, and class in the policy process is emphasized throughout the course.
