SWR-475 - Small Group Theory & Practice

Semester Credits: 3 Weeks: 8

This course builds on student knowledge of generalist practice with groups presenting theories and skills for social group work. Theoretical and practical approaches to social work with small groups including developmental stages, small group processes, and appropriate worker interventions will be taught. The course will explore task and treatment groups, including committees, teams, and advisory boards, as well as groups for education, socialization, and remediation. There is an emphasis on ethical group practice, and understanding, affirming, and respecting groups and group members with diverse backgrounds.
