SWR-485 - Social Justice & Macro Practice

Semester Credits: 3 Weeks: 8

This course expands the “person in environment” perspective by considering the environment as a focus for practice. It introduces students to evidence-based models of assessment and emerging interventions that address macro-level social issues emphasizing principles including social and economic justice and empowerment through an examination of racism and other intersecting oppressions. This course examines the role of social workers in policy change within political, organizational, and community contexts, specifically community organization, management, and policy advocacy with a focus on constituent-led change efforts and a strengths-based orientation to practice.
