Bachelor of Social Work

Description of Program

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Degree Program prepares students for critical anti-racist entry-level generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Through courses and practicum experience, students gain the knowledge, skills, and values essential for equity-focused generalist practice in a variety of social work settings. The BSW degree also qualifies students to begin their study for a Master of Social Work degree with advanced standing.

BSW students are required to get 400 hours of practicum experience in two different social service agencies. The first practicum is 100 hours and takes place in conjunction with SWR-380: Social Work Practicum I. This class is 12 weeks long and includes a 1-hour Zoom class meeting per week. The second practicum is divided into two sections. The first is 150 hours and co-occurs with SWR-490: Social Work Practicum IIa. The second is 150 hours and co-occurs with SWR-491: Social Work Practicum IIb. Those two classes are also 12 weeks long and include a 1-hour/week Zoom meeting.
