Foundational knowledge will be provided to become a critical consumer of statistical-based research literature as well as develop the necessary skilled set to complete a quantitative dissertation. Even if a qualitative study is planned for the dissertation, as a trained scholarly research, basic knowledge of statistics analyses will be needed to understand and conduct various types of studies. This is one of many course in the research sequence designed to develop independent scholarly research skills. Students will build their independent scholarly skills by enhancing their scientific and statistical literacy. The emphasis will be on understanding the data, comprehending statistical concepts, analyzing, interpreting, and critically evaluating statistical information, and communicating statistical information and knowledge. Some computations will be completed manually and others using SPSS, a statistical software package, to analyze data. The final or signature assignment will provide a culminating learning experience, applying the statistical skills presented throughout the course.
